Excel Formula Calendar

Here's a little something I whipped up this afternoon. It's an Excel VBA macro that creates a "live" calendar in a worksheet. The days are displayed using a complex array formula. Change the month and year and the calendar updates as if by magic.

You can download a copy of the Array Formula Calendar and take it for a spin. When you open the workbook, you must enable macros, or nothing will happen when you click the button.

Once the calendar is created, you can copy the cells and paste them to another range, another sheet, or another workbook. The macro simply generates the formulas. It is not necessary for the calendar to work.

A Blog Reading Primer

John C. Dvorak writes: Understanding and Reading a Blog.

With five million or more bloggers out there and even more readers it is assumed that everyone knows how to read a blog, or how they work. From my blogging experience I can say that this is definitely not true and hopefully this short article will describe the process for newcomers. This article is for the readers of blogs, not the writers.

Interestingly, he uses this blog as one of his examples -- complete with call-outs.

Google Desktop And Excel: A Fix?

Last week, I mentioned that some people were having weird Excel problems when using Google Desktop.

Jeff Smith sent me a possible fix. The culprit, it seems, is this registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeExcelAddins
Office.Desktop.Google.comLoadBehavior

If it's set to 3, change it to 2.
