A Moment Of Silence

I'm thinking this may have made a better photo caption contest.

It's from Yahoo News (I mean Yahoo! News)

Create A Fake Clippy

Most Microsoft Office users are familiar with the obnoxious help UI known as the Office Assistant. The default character is Clippy. The most recent version of Office does not use Office Assistant by default, but it's reputation lives on As you surf the Web, it's not uncommon to run across fake Clippy messages. Here's a recent example.

Here I describe how to create your very own fake Clippy message. Here's an example:

The instructions below assume that you're using Excel. The VBA code should also work with Word.

  1. Start a new workbook.
  2. Press Alt+F11 to access the VBA Editor.
  3. Double-click your workbook name in the Project Window.
  4. Select Insert - Module to insert an empty VBA module.
  5. Copy the text from this text file, and past it into the module.
  6. Move the mouse pointer anywhere within the ShowClippy code, and press F5 to display Clippy and your custom message.
  7. Play around with the code and substitute your own text.

If this sounds like too much work, just download my Excel file.

Happy Birthday Esther!

Today is Esther Golton's birthday. Best wishes to one of my favorite singers and a truly excellent human being.

Today is her birthday
And she lives in Alaska
It could be lots worse
It could be Nebraska

It's gotta be tough
living with a jester
If anyone can do it
It has to be Esther

She sings like an angel
Never misses a beat
To hear what she sounds like
Tune into Whole Wheat

Happy birthday, Esther!

Identify This Bird

Pamn's grandchildren are visiting for the weekend, and yesterday we went to the Reid Park Zoo. I took this photo of a very attractive green bird, but I have no idea what it is. Any bird experts out there?
