Richard Colbert, Spammer

From the New York Times: Confessions of a Spam King (fake name registration required).

His name is Richard Colbert. On the Rokso, or Register of Known Spam Operations (a kind of Most Wanted List for the Internet posted on an antispam Web site called spamhaus.org), Colbert is described plainly: ''Nonstop scam spammer, kicked off so many hosts and I.S.P.s'' -- or Internet service providers -- ''it's hard to count.''

First off, Colbert doesn't think about spam the way I do (or, most probably, the way you do). He likes to call it ''bulk e-mailing,'' for starters. And he considers it just one of the many exciting new markets available on the Internet.

Yeah, real exciting.

That's him, at home in the Sunset Colony Mobile Home Park in Fort Lauderdale.

Spider Web Pearls

A wet morning, plus a spider web that stretches half-way across the yard... equals pearls. I took this photo earlier in the week, but I didn't look at it until today (click for a larger view).

Conjoined Celebrities

From b3ta, Photoshopped images of conjoined celebrities.

What's better than one celebrity? Two joined mercilessly together, that's what. Grab two people whose names go together and shop them so they look stupid.

Here's Johnny Cash conjoined with John Ritter.

Trouble For Nigerian Philanthropists

If you're a philanthropist who lives in Nigeria, giving away your money can be very difficult. See Nigerian Philanthropist Can't Give Away Millions.

"Charities use too much of my donations in overhead so I've been contacting people through e-mail and asking if they want to share in my wealth. I thought it would be easy to give away millions and make it on the Philanthropist's Top 100 list, but I have only had one taker so far," explained Ayele.

Bush vs. Tic-Tacs

This site provides an objective analysis to answer the question, Who would make a better president Bush or a box of Tic-Tacs?

It's actually very thought-provoking.

Black Vodka, Anyone?

Blavod makes black vodka, and it's "outrageously smooth."

Mark Dorman was working in San Francisco when he was offered a choice of 28 vodkas in a bar... and then he was asked if he wanted his coffee black or white. He thought it would be a great idea to offer drinkers a black vodka.

The colour of the vodka is changed by adding catechu, a herb found in southern Asia and central and east Africa.. Rich in tannin, catechu has no effect on vodka's flavour. However, many say it makes the vodka a little smoother.

Safety Charts From India

In India, they teach safety to kids by using safety charts. The one shown here teaches a valuable lesson:

Do not talk while sharpening a pencil. It may cause your teacher to insert a pencil into her nose.

Installing A Service Pack

Windows 2000 users who need to install service packs for CorelDRAW 9 or Corel PHOTO-PAINT 9 may need some additional instructions. In fact, it won't work unless you perform this rather unintuitive step (this is from a Corel Knowledge Base article):

Change the current TimeZone to GMT+8:00 Perth and the date to 1999 (this can be done using the Date/Time Settings in the Control Panel). Install the required Service Pack(s) and reboot your computer. When Windows loads, reset your system configuration to reflect the current date/time.
