Famous Monkeys

A list of monkeys who have made their mark on society.

Shown here is Nim Chimpsky:

Nim Chimpsky, named after the great linguist Noam Chomsky, was the first chimpanzee to learn American sign language. Nim became famous, and was the subject of numerous books and television specials. But when the researchers had no more use for him, they opted to sell him to a hepatitis research lab, where he would have been the subject of painful experiments and eventually killed. Nim enjoys looking at magazines, watching television, and putting on hats and shoes.

Cat Stevens Cover Songs

This is pretty cool. At the Cat Stevens site, they invite people to submit cover versions of Cat Stevens songs. Unfortunately, they chose the Real Audio format rather than MP3 (man, that Real Audio player sucks!).

Currently, 328 songs are available. Some are good, some are terrible.

Feral Children

An entire web site devoted to feral children.

Feral children, also known as wolf children, are children who've grown up with minimal human contact, or even none at all. They may have been brought up by animals (often wolves) or somehow survived on their own. In some cases, children are confined and denied normal social interaction with other people.

Motorized Scuba Bike

Australia's only suppliers of the Scuba-Doo motorized scuba bike.

Scuba-Dooing means you don't need to wear a mask or mouthpiece. The air tank and diving weights are on the Scuba-Doo motorised scuba bike.

You are seated on your Scuba-Doo, with your head and shoulders in a clear dome. Your air is constantly being replenished from a scuba tank, enabling you to breathe normally!

Pearl Jam Going Indie?

I'm not exactly a Pearl Jam fan, but I did find this MSNBC article interesting. Pearl Jam's 12-year contract with Epic Records is expiring.

If Pearl Jam -- now touring the United States to wildly enthusiastic crowds -- is able to create a successful business model mobilizing its fans via the Internet and engaging in such "crazy" stunts as releasing live double albums of every show it performs, this could be the beginning of a stampede away from the lumbering dinosaurs that the major labels have become.
