Based on developments during the past year, EPIC assessed the current level as Yellow (see press release).

Spammers Come Full Circle

This morning's massive deluge of spam included two different spam emails that were trying to sell me anti-spam software. That's kind of like a telemarketing campaign to sell the TeleZapper. Or maybe a pop-up ad that sells a pop-up blocker.

Bass and Guitar Girls

Photos of women who play bass or guitar.

Once in a while, I'll be wandering the internet and I'll come across a nice picture of a certain bass or guitar player that I like. I usually download it. sometimes i even find myself downloading cool-looking pictures of people I don't really like, or maybe never even heard of. I guess I just like to collect pictures.

Pictured here is one of my favorite guitar playing chicks, Liz Phair.

Radiant Primes

I don't really understand this site, but math-minded folks might find it interesting. And the graphic is fascinating. A tiny portion is shown here.

Each prime number is converted to every base up to itself minus 1. Reversed, some numbers will form another prime number. The marks indicate where another prime exists. The primes on the left start at 2 and continue down the page. The bases extend across the page. These primes form a pattern similar to an astronomical radiant (the point in the sky from which a meteor shower appears to originate).

MetaFilter Music

The MetaFilter site is on my list of daily reads. The recently started a new section called MetaFilter Music.

The songs you'll find on this server were created and performed by members of MetaFilter and cover a good number of different genres. If you're a member of MetaFilter and you've created some music you'd like to share with others, zip up your files (128kbps mp3s only please) and put them on a webserver somewhere, then send a download link...

I chose one listing at random, a group called Low-Tech Riff Raff (they contributed three songs). Good stuff! Here's a link to their web site.

I will definitely check out more MetaFilter Music when I get some time.

The Rap Dictionary

The Rap Dictionary: An indispensable reference for us in the over-50 generation.

Believe it or not, I've listened to a fair amount of Snoop Doggy Dogg's music, and this site clears up a few questions I had. For example, I now know what "on swo" means.

on swo: (adv) Increasing in size, often used in prisons to describe a weight lifter. "My bank roll's on swo"

And I've always wondered about this lyric: "With so much drama in the LBC..." As it turns out, it's simply an abbreviation for Long Beach California.

The Very Best of Cher

I'm a sucker for a well-written, thoughtful music review. And Buddy Blue came through for me this morning with a great review of Cher's new CD.

Buddy writes...

As the noxious goat bray spilled from the speakers, my ears began to hemorrhage profusely, followed by projectile vomiting and seizures. My wife finally took note of my condition and paramedics were summoned.

I spent the next three days in intensive care with Robert Johnson songs being pumped into my ears via headphones before I regained enough strength to return home. Once my health has been fully regained, divorce papers shall be served; a lawsuit against the terrorist cell Warner Bros. Records is also in the works. Meanwhile, this vile package, ostensibly served up as a "Special Farewell Edition," is a companion piece to Cher's ostensible "Farewell Tour," which has been going on since 1991 - which happens to coincide with the beginning of the first Gulf War. Coincidence or hateful plot by Saddam Hussein? This is for bigger minds than my own to determine.
