intelligent people, I am a devoted fan of The Simpsons. Imagine my thrill when I
found a detailed (and I mean very detailed)
map of
Springfield, USA. Make sure you check out the "BIG map."
The map was created by Jerry Lerma and Terry Hogan. Thanks guys. Very impressive!

Hilary Rosen: I'm Outta Here!
A few days ago, I declared that RIAA honcho Hilary Rosen had lost her mind. She must have taken it personally. Today she announced that she'll be resigning her position at the RIAA. But she'll stay on through the end of the year. How nice to give 11 month's notice.
"During my tenure here, the recording industry has undergone dramatic challenges and it is well positioned for future success. I have been extremely proud to be a part of this industry transition," Rosen said. "But I have young children and I want to devote more of my time to them." She said the RIAA board will conduct a formal search for a replacement.
Hopefully, her successor will have a better grasp of reality. But I will miss her. It's been kind of fun laughing at her ridiculous statements.

Music From Printers
At emusic.com you can download (or preview) an album titled "Symphony #2 For Dot Matrix Printers," by The User.
It is exactly what it sounds like, a musical composition in which the only 'instruments' are printers, mic'd to amplify the whirring of carriages and the banging of type.
Here's a listing of the track titles:

Hey, Get Rid of That Butt!
From the "Let's Change History" department:
The classic Beatles' Abbey Road album cover showing the band on a zebra crossing has been altered - to remove the cigarette in Paul McCartney's hand. The 1969 photo has been a poster best-seller since it was shot near Abbey Road studios in North London, where the Fab Four recorded most of their music. But companies including US giant Allposters asked for the cigarette to be removed by computer wizardry to make it more politically correct.

Better get busy. There are several hundred thousand movies that need to be edited.

Buy Multi-Year Licensing, or We'll Do An Audit
USA Today has an interesting story about Microsoft's sales tactics.
HOUSTON - he people who run this city recently heard a familiar pitch from Microsoft: Sign up for a multiyear, $12 million software licensing plan or face an audit exposing the city's use of software it hadn't paid for. Microsoft warned that the city could be slapped with stiff fines for using any Microsoft software for which it could not produce receipts.
Are these types of threats common?
Microsoft says it prohibits audit threats and did not consider such letters threats. Sales reps are encouraged to make customers aware of options, the company says. But 6% of 1,400 worldwide corporations surveyed in 2002 said they had been threatened with an audit if they didn't sign up for a new license, says researchers Yankee and Sunbelt Software. Another 26% said Microsoft alluded to the possibility.

Those Crazy Republicans: Send Spam, Win Prizes
The Inquirer describes a Republican web site that encourages its members to send spam in order to win prizes.
You will be credited with 5 GOPoints for each letter written, with a maximum of 20 each day. Thank you for helping us reach our year end goal of 250,000 Team Leaders. This is an amazing feat, but it is only the beginning. Please help us reach our new goal for victory in 2004 of 500,000 Team Leaders supporting President George W. Bush and the Republican team by signing up your friends and family and encouraging them to upgrade to a Leader today.
And speaking of Republicans, don't forget to check out the Republican Babe of the Week.

Need a Cape?
You say your old cape
is getting a bit ragged? Or maybe you don't even own a cape!
If so, head over to amazon.com and pick one up. But not just any cape. You'll want an authentic Velvet Count Cape. Only $279.99. Color choices: black.
But don't take my word for it. Read the customer comments. Here is a small sampling:
- I bought this cape for my husband to wear at the captains ball on the cruise we went on for our 50th anniversary. It was a hit.
- A lifetime cape wearer, I must say I was thrilled to discover this one.
- Since adding the cape to my wardrobe, the ladies are knocking my door down.
- It's very easy to clean, the stains come out with no problem.
- So after much looking, I found this wonderful cape which we buried him in. Although it was a sad day, the cape, along with the wonderful cosmetic work done by my cousin, restored Uncle Horace to his youthful splendor.
