The WiFi Speed Spray Auction Revisited

A few days ago I linked to an eBay auction for a fictional product called WiFi Speed Spray. The seller essentially stole the content of a joke site that I created (and posted on 13 November, 2002). He's auctioning this fake product. The original auction didn't attract any bids. But now it's back (eBay link).

I sent a polite message to the seller, asking him to remove the auction. I also provided the link to my site. His reply:

Sir, with all due respect, how do I know you created it? I got this joke via E-Mail from 3 different friends, the joke is floating around the net, and I registered WiFiSpeedSpray.com and will sell bottles of water with WiFi Speed Spray on them as a novelty joke for the geek who has everything.

I did not steal it from anyone, and you can't protect an idea if it isn't patented. I'm sorry.

In the past, I've asked perhaps a half-dozen people to remove stolen content. This is the first time anyone has refused.

I'll contact eBay, and hope they take action. But beyond that, it's not worth putting any effort into.

The seller, by the way, is spectropolis.com. Check out their useless site and you'll get an idea of where they're coming from.

Update: Not only did he steal my material to post on eBay, this low-life scumbag also lifted my entire site and posted it on his own server: My stolen site. He removed the links back to my site, along with my (humorous) copyright notice.
