1924 Miracle

This happened in 1924: Crucifix in throat 10 days removed without knife.

After lying for ten days, imbedded in the throat of a patient in a Boston hospital, a crucifix, two inches long, was extracted without surgery. X-rays located the obstruction and, although the victim was at the point of strangulation, no knife was used, despite the fact that the prongs had become lodged in the sides of the windpipe.

Fastened in an upright position, the cross arms are believed to have prevented the piece from penetrating further.

A woman who swallowed her toothbrush still managed to dial the emergency number for an ambulance, a newspaper reports. The South China Morning Post says the 42-year-old woman's brush with disaster happened when she slipped jamming the offending 15-centimetre implement down her throat.

It reports the Hong Kong woman was still able to call 999 without choking and request an ambulance.

Sorry, no x-ray photo.
