TV Fireplace Cabinet
(with comments)
Dumbest idea of the year? Plasma TV Fireplace and Cabinet.
Most people hate the thought of giving up a room to a television. As hard as manufactures try to make Plasma & LCD TV's look good, hanging them on the wall or standing them on a table does not make your room look any more attractive.
Large screen TV's even make watching the news a cinematic experience, not to mention the latest blockbuster movie. So why not combine your TV with the unique 'Firelight' Plasma TV Fireplace (patent pending 0514383.9) and create a focal point that is both beautiful to look at and functional, and get rid of that big black box.
Call me old-fashioned, but I'd rather look at an LCD screen rather an ugly fake fireplace any day. But I guess people who paint their walls that hideous blue color would like it.

- By . Comment posted 13-Sep-2005 @09:54am:How about a contest to identify the painting behind the screen?
- By Michael. Comment posted 13-Sep-2005 @09:58am:Ohhh...plasma TV with a fake fireplace! Every well-appointed trailer home should have one! Perfect!
And in typical red-neck fashion, there's a car up on blocks in the front yard, nothing in the fridge except baloney, Schlitz, and government cheese, but in the middle of the living room is a TV system that would make Trump envious!
Tacky!!! - By . Comment posted 13-Sep-2005 @10:16am:Mmmm.... government cheese.
- By Catheen. Comment posted 13-Sep-2005 @10:39am:This has bugged me for years. Putting a TV over a fire place. Builders even put a large space for a TV to go there, instead of a mantel. Yuck! And government cheese Yuck!
I feel better now, I think I can let this go. - By Toad. Comment posted 13-Sep-2005 @11:13am:Hey, has anyone here ever had a grilled govt-cheese sandwich? I'm wondering if GI cheese makes a good grilled cheese. It seems like it should. I think my grandparents got government cheese, but they never made me a grilled cheese sandwich with it. Not that I'm bitter.
- By . Comment posted 13-Sep-2005 @11:37am:I was just thinking that Government Cheese would make a great name for a blog. Too late.
This is the only decent photo of Government Cheese that I could find.

- By . Comment posted 13-Sep-2005 @12:19pm:Put the TV in a real fireplace , burn it, then read a good book with your favorite Brandy and a government cheese sandwich.
- By . Comment posted 13-Sep-2005 @12:23pm:I have to slightly disagree with you on this one - the blue of and by itself is not hideous, only in this context as a wall color.
And since we're talking cheese, what about the taxidermy? - By Guy. Comment posted 13-Sep-2005 @01:23pm:Here's some better A/V designs, if you happen to live in Montana:

- By Jane. Comment posted 13-Sep-2005 @02:48pm:Since we never use our fireplace, we've considered placing any future plasma screen TV we might buy on the elevated hearth in front of the fireplace opening. That would let us put two couches in our narrow living room and be able to watch TV from either one.
- By wally the duck. Comment posted 13-Sep-2005 @03:07pm:OK, you're old fashioned. But correct.
- By wally the duck. Comment posted 13-Sep-2005 @03:11pm:If you'd prefer, you could have the TV in your refrigerator door:

Or into your bathroom mirror:
