Horse Ice Cream
(with comments)

Not ice cream for horses, but ice cream made from horse. Not only that, but it's raw horseflesh: Basashi Aisu.

There mere thought of putting raw horseflesh into ice cream may be enough to produce plenty of neigh ... er, naysayers. And, rightfully so. You can get it straight from the horse's mouth, this would have to vie for the vilest ice cream ever created. The chunks of meat inside it offer ample proof of why horseflesh is usually used in dog food.

Not wanting to be a nag, this flavor needs a definite gee-up. The only saving grace is perhaps that tonight's dessert could well have been last week's odds-on favorite.

The site has several other unusual ice cream flavors.

I had to quit reading the descriptions because of the incredibly lame puns and jokes. They're even worse than mine.

The goat ice cream looked good, though. No kidding.

If you can put up with it long enough, you finally get to the good stuff: Stout (Black Beer), Potato Liquor, Red Wine.

    What, no Single-Malt Sorbet?

Proof the Japanese are truly different than us. Imagine one of these in a freezer power outage....

I wonder if they'll offer this flavor next:
    Fat, ugly, poisonous, mutant Toads

Darwin gave it two thumbs up!

With the description of horse ice-cream I suddenly felt not very hungry.

Then, with the thought of fat, ugly, poisonous, mutant Toads, I felt better.

    Why is that?

"why horseflesh is usually used in dog food"

Because, despite its better quality and tastier meat than cow meat, horses are cuter than cows, ergo, human beings won't eat it.

Basically you're talking about horse-sashimi. Quite normal food in some parts of Japan.
Thinly sliced, very high quality, tender, horse flesh.

And no mad cow disease either.
