I have some 18th century Chinese mother of pearl “Loo” chips, which were used as markers for gambling purposes. They are cut into shapes and inscribed like scrimshaw. I bought them at an antique show over thirty five years ago with the intent of possibly using them as inlays for a guitar. I might use them instead as inlays for a snare drum, as they do not lay flat, but still have a bit of the natural curve of the shells they came from.

Also, I asked if anyone could provide any links that show that we went to Iraq because of oil. Are ya’ll just forfeiting?

When you stop and think about it, it makes more sense that we went to war with Iraq to stop the flow of their oil, rather than take it for ourselves.
Saddam Hussein wanted to sell more oil and at a lower price than what OPEC quotas had set for him (and yes, the USA is a member of OPEC). Seeing as how Iraq was the second largest operating oil field in the world at the time, it was in OPEC’s best interests to close it down.

Simple supply and demand economics tells us that with that oil field out of service, that the price will rise.

Considering those facts, I’d say “Mission accomplished!”

Right decibelcat, maybe an Inspector Gadget leg!

I forgot to mention that the socket of my prosthetic is made of a high tech combination of carbon fiber and epoxy. When struck with a drumstick, it makes a very nice cowbell, with nice tone and a good sustain, neither choked up or too “ringy”. I’ve already sampled it and used it on some Latin CD’s I recorded. The clients loved the way it sounded.

It’s real nice to know that when I go out to hear a band and they break into “Honky Tonk Woman”, “Mississippi Queen” or “Don’t Fear The Reaper”, that I can pop my leg off and play along.

Moonshine is illegal because the government cannot collect the taxes on it.

There’s probably not enough uncollected taxes on those 30 gallons to begin to pay the salaries of the police officers who participated in the bust.

I’ll see your cicada and raise you a bloodsucking, Lyme disease carrying TICK. Area I’m working in lately is high plateau pine forest with grasslands, lots of deer, and ticks. Lots of ticks. Just guessing but probably a *million* ticks per hectare. Even thinking about it, I start getting phantom tick-in-hair syndrome.

Heard a great country song--well, entertaining, at least--on the radio yesterday. Chorus went (thanks to Google)…

Cause I’d like to see you out in the moonlight
I’d like to kiss you way back in the sticks
I’d like to walk you through a field of wildflowers
and I want to check you for ticks

Now that’s poetry. And eco-friendly.
