Who’s received the flu vaccine so far? I got the seasonal in nose squirt form, but haven’t got the H1N1 yet.

I’ve had a seasonal flu shot.  H1N1 isn’t available yet.

True, but the poor guy is swimming upstream in that he has inherited a concurrent suite of problems unequalled in your country’s history, along with a number of comfortably-entrenched vested-interests who do not want their goalposts relocated !

In Obama you at least have an articulate, intelligent and ethical President inclined to tackle fundamental issues like world peace, equitable health-care and curbing the financial excesses of the Wall Street ‘mafia’.

His greatest legacy, though, is likely to trancend all of these in that his efforts and persona have (thus far) retained America’s recently fragile position as the world’s primary superpower.  Look around, competitors are emerging and forming alliances .. and it will take more than military muscle alone to stay on top of the heap from here on in.

Support him, or lose him ... and let the gargoyles take you down another notch or two !

I guess you might draw some parallels to Rupert Murdoch wanting public broadcasters like the BBC in the UK and the ABC in Australia to stop providing free online news, as it hurts his ability to control and profit. By providing free online news content, public broadcasters act as competition, ensuring certain minimum standards in the private sector.

If you are poor, disabled, orphaned, mentally ill, or in some other way down on your luck and unable to help yourself, what happens to you? In the current US health care system, that is a scary question.

Most belief systems and philosophies advocate helping the disadvantaged, and a minimum level of publicly funded health care is one reasonable way of administering that help.

Gun ownership by a population can be a deterrent to crime, or it can allow easy access to guns for the crazy.  As far as I know, no one who has gone through the trouble of getting legal access to machine guns and silenced guns has ever committed a crime with those weapons.
