Watch Out For Web Seals
(with comments)
Shopping online? Be wary of Web seals and user reviews.
Don't trust Web seals. You might think that the Web seal on a retail site is a sign of the merchant's integrity. Not necessarily.
Sure, they look fun and friendly, but you can't trust 'em -- especially when they form a herd.
And more seals don't equal better service. We found one seal-laden e-commerce site that received an F from the Better Business Bureau.

Who needs Seals? - By . Comment posted 20-Nov-2009 @08:44am:We've needed a new blade assembly for our Cuisinart blender for months, but every time I go to buy one online I get wigged about using a credit card at some random discount seller's website. Direct from Cuisinart or even Amazon the part is more than twice the price some others offer it for, but those others don't exactly exude credibility. I've never been ripped off before but somehow it just seems like the time is ripe for a massive online credit card scandal to explode on everybody and I don't wish to participate. I guess I'm going to end up paying retail.

Wow, cool. How do you get one? Ask your credit card company? What will they charge for the priviledge? - By . Comment posted 20-Nov-2009 @11:35am:

Actually, I had already Googled it but only saw links to blog posts about PayPal at first. Upon your admonision I went and read a few of them and still found that it's mostly PayPal so it's more of a debit than credit device...unless you have a PayPal credit card, which I don't and don't want.
Turns out AmEx and Discover also offer it but I don't have them either. After years of churning we're down to just one single Visa account and I like it that way. I don't see anything on their website but I reckon I might contact them directly and see if it's an option.
I guess the PayPal thing will work for stuff like my blender part anyway. Thanks.
