Iraq Swears by Bomb Detector U.S. Sees as Useless

    ...
But the device works “on the same principle as a Ouija board” — the power of suggestion — said a retired United States Air Force officer, Lt. Col. Hal Bidlack, who described the wand as nothing more than an explosives divining rod.
    ...
During an interview on Tuesday, General Jabiri challenged a Times reporter to test the ADE 651, placing a grenade and a machine pistol in plain view in his office. Despite two attempts, the wand did not detect the weapons when used by the reporter but did so each time it was used by a policeman.

This loser doesn't even understand the value of blind, controlled testing. I'm glad I don't work for him.

Oh no, it's starting to come unraveled. If you remember on Wednesday, June 17, 2009; I made a comment (it has since been deleted) that you can mark my words, It will be revealed that Acorn is going to be found guilty of more than voter fraud (as if that's not bad enough). This is news from today, "Attorney General Buddy Caldwell has served a search warrant at the ACORN office at 2609 Canal Street in New Orleans, according to Tammi Arender Herring, a spokeswoman with the office." I’ll say it again; Acorn is as crooked as almost ALL politicians. This will not be the last time you hear about Acorn

Actually, if it's Sunday, that means tomorrow must be Saturday!

That's the line my dad's friend used after he retired and my dad was still working. They used to get together on weekends with the Wally Bynum Airstream club.

bb, I thank you for that. I'm going to use it.

Today we cleaned for 2 hours then ran off to play at the scrap metal yard looking for bird house adornments.

Mr. Mean PAID for a video of some guy in England playing "Cavatina", but using a simpler method for the fingering than the John Williams version. It is heaven on earth to listen to him practice this song.

Finally got my FPV plane together... FPV is first person view

There is a camera on the plane that has a transmitter that sends the video to a base station with a monitor. Once you take off you go over to the monitor and fly it like you are in it.
Quite the head rush today with the maiden flight. Tiny spy cam for guidance and a small HD cam on board to capture the video which I should have in a little while...

De plane with HD cam removed

And DEFINITELY, let's not point a finger at the AdministRATION for not following through on any of their promises. Instead, we've gotten floundering and double-talk over and over. Plus hints at, 'What do you guys think about another, uh, 'stimulus?' It is to LAUGH.

Meanwhile an important vote missed by key republicans to strengthen the Patriot Act because they were with the teabaggers and Crazy Michele Bachman screaming about government run health care. Screwed themselves. Screwed themselves losing in New York just to purge a moderate.
Screwed themselves in California. This is soooo much fun.

When you say Teabaggers - I know you're referring to people who have a different political opinion than you.

And these people have been staging peaceful protests against policies that they believe are unjust and harmful to our nation.

The questions I'd like to ask you: Do you respect their efforts, at least? And second - I'm going to guess you're aware of what 'teabagging' refers to. Don't you feel a little childish using such a gross, juvenile term?

I do not. I do not respect effort expended in bad directions. The teabaggers complaints are based on faulty info and is applied inconsistently. (Why did they not protest creeping govt power and fiscal irresponsibility before Jan 2009?)

Do you respect the efforts expended by Hitler and Stalin towards their goals?

I'm going to guess you're aware of what 'teabagging' refers to. Don't you feel a little childish using such a gross, juvenile term?

Pelosi's just a target for stirring the populist pot. We are screwed because of policies started by Reagan, maintained during Bush the 1st, amplified by Clinton and brought to their ultimate frenzy of destruction by Bush the 2nd. It appears that Obama doesn't have a plan for the economy, has put too much of his political capital into health care, is perplexed by the wars and is possibly all poof, no bingo.

True, but the poor guy is swimming upstream in that he has inherited a concurrent suite of problems unequalled in your country's history, along with a number of comfortably-entrenched vested-interests who do not want their goalposts relocated !

In Obama you at least have an articulate, intelligent and ethical President inclined to tackle fundamental issues like world peace, equitable health-care and curbing the financial excesses of the Wall Street 'mafia'.

His greatest legacy, though, is likely to trancend all of these in that his efforts and persona have (thus far) retained America's recently fragile position as the world's primary superpower. Look around, competitors are emerging and forming alliances .. and it will take more than military muscle alone to stay on top of the heap from here on in.

Support him, or lose him ... and let the gargoyles take you down another notch or two !

meg_mac - please read my comment #52 before lumping me in with wok. I am a liberal lifelong Democrat, but that doesn't mean I leave my skepticism at the door when my party is in power. I have been specific in my concerns in the above thread and I am frankly, confounded at this administration's reaction to economic events throughout 2009.

Please tell me how the economy has made your life worse?

My family's health care costs increased by 30% this year and with a child who has monthly medical bills, that has had a huge impact. My property taxes have increased this year due to my state's budget shortfall, the autism charter school my child attends (and on whose board I serve), is scrambling for adequate funding because of a state funding hold back. Though my wife has a good job, a significant portion of her annual compensation is discretionary and was reduced in '09 and likely to remain so in '10.

We are in a much better position than many, many people and I'm thankful for that and not complaining. Nor do I blame Obama for these circumstances, not at all. But come spring 2011, if this situation for myself and for all the people I know who are really hurting, I will be blaming the President. I'll still vote for him, but I won't be cheerful.

meg_mac, I have no idea why you'd think, or say, that 'Teabagger' is a term Tea Party protesters have used, or come up with, to describe themselves. It's not.

In fact the opposite is true - everyone from message board posters to supposedly respectable, unbiased, news agencies have used the term - knowing full well it's meaning. The fact that you think it's not gross and juvenile is only slightly less odd than the fact that you seem to believe it's a self-referential term.

Meg - my customer's ain't buyin' the stuff I'm selling, like they were. But that's due in part because they're in a part of the country that's more affected than other areas. Our Southern territory hasn't missed a beat, however.

My apologies Curtis. I did have second thoughts about Curtis and Wok comment. :) I think we all have been impacted and I am empathetic. My costs have increased also. I think the passage of a decent health care bill could help us all as it will bring costs down. I worry for you if there is a state opt out clause as I think Pawlenty will try to block for Minnesotans.

Certainly. I'd ask that you, in return, show me anything that proves your assertion that the term is 'their term' (the tea party protestors). Again, it's not.

Okay: Wearing tea bags around your ears references the idea of a tea party protest. Tea bag = Tea. (Sorry to be pedantic, but, hey.) It's a visual way to say we, like our forbears, are being overtaxed and misrepresented.

Good old Wikipedia, even, tells the story of how 'Teabagging' became a phrase some use in regard to these protests. You'll note that Anderson Cooper admitted what he said was wrong and stupid:

Umm, yeah. What you quote is critical of Obama and indicates worry about his ability to turn things around - none of it goes so far as blaming the mess on him. He is reacting to events and I expect more than that from him and that includes Afghanistan.

No, that's clearly an overstatement. Cheney deserves a lot of the credit, and don't forget that Phil Gramm bears some responsibility for eliminating crucial regulations, including the Glass-Steagall Act.

The enrichment and support of the aristocracy at the expense of the populace has continued at a torrid pace under Mr. Obama. He tolerates people in his administration who have now proven to be as cronyistic - if not outright crooked - as anybody in the time of Harding or Grant. Further, he has shown no inclination to try to reform the excesses, regulate the looting or break up the oligarchic banking system of the US.

And what do you suggest be done to "break up the oligarchic banking system of the US," short of nationalization? And why do you hate justice?

Geithner; Summers... the mechanisms are different today, but he result is the same: vast sums of money transfer to cronies (in today's case, future and former employers). Today that transfer is explained as 'saving Main Street' even though it is demonstrably not what is happening.

Breaking up the banks is now endorsed by some quite prominent economists including Simon Johnson, John S. Reed, Mervyn King, Andy Haldane... and many others. The goal is to split speculative trading from banking, since the trading risks endanger the banking system.

It isn't hating justice... it is seeing a really bleak future. When I say 'transfer of wealth from people to the aristocracy', that's exactly what I see happening.

Do you have any reading material you can list; I'd like to know more. I agree that the massive banks concentrate too much economic force in too few institutions, but isn't it impossible to run a world economy without that happening?

I don't know enough about this stuff and I know you've been paying attention.
