Ted Nugent Update
(with comments)

A good question: Ted Nugent: Off his rocker?

He owns 350 guns, wants to nuke Iraq and makes his friend George W look like a liberal. Now 1970s heavy metal star Ted Nugent has his sights set on a new target: entering US politics...

He explains his political philosophy which, as I understand it, is based on extending the death penalty to a far wider range of crimes than homicide, then arming any survivors to the teeth. He owns around 350 guns himself - more than one for every household in Crawford...

He has become sincerely persuaded that, to quote Alabama 3's paraphrase of Chairman Mao, "change must come through the barrel of a gun". Nugent says he worked tirelessly in George W Bush's campaign to be elected Governor of Texas: "I had a great communication with him then." More recently, he has criticised the President for feeble liberalism, especially concerning border controls. But Nugent remains a cherished if wayward, member of the Republican family.

Ted was entertaining for about 5 minutes back in 1977.

Ted says about guns in the UK "Never has there been such an upsurge in crime since they confiscated all your weapons. Why don't you arm yourselves?"

The boy is an idiot with as good a grasp of facts as a dead flea.

FACT: There is more gun crime in an average American city per week than there is in the entire UK in a year.

FACT: A recent police survey found that out of the 47,000 UK police men and women (out of a total of 141,000) who replied to the question "Should they be armed?" 17% thought they should and over 70% said no (the rest were don't knows).

He needs to learn about perspective: The London police regrettably shot that Brazilian man and it made international news, the police in Rio de Janeiro shoot over 1,000 people a year, that does not make the news.

Dave, you are living proof that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Had the Jews in Germany not had their weapons confisicated they might have been able to defend themselves against the Nazis. As it was, a rag-tag group of Jews was able to hold off the entire Nazi army with just a few weapons, until the Nazis burned them out.

You go ahead with your Kumbaya fantasy-land. The rest of us (with any sense of history) will keep our powder dry and not rely on so-called law enforcement to ensure our well-being.

    Moron.

Hey Thrash. I reject your premise.

Name one right that you had 5 years ago that you don't have today.

No, I did not think you could.

The only erosion is between your ears.

I don't live in the US. However, it is my understanding that 5 years ago the US government could not hold US citizens indefinitely without trial. The US governement now claims the right to hold US citizens without trial if they are designated as an enemy combatent. For other examples you should look no further than the Patriot Act.

You have to be careful what you believe when it comes to foreign reporting on what the state of affairs in the US is Thrash. I've met quite a few Brits who have some awfully weird ideas about what actually goes on in the US; especially when it comes to things like gun control and health-care.

Keep in mind that most reporting is agenda driven, and in some cases even commissioned by those that have the axe to grind. For example, here in the US both parties regularly hire and pay editorialists to write opinion pieces that are designed to further or support the agenda of the day.

It's actually kind of sad how certain "facts" so easily become furniture of the mind simply because they fit in with someone's ideological propensities.

I don't just read foreign reporting of US events. I follow quite a few US media sites as well, mainstream and alternative. Combined with the various non US media sources I read, I think I get a good grounding in US politics and ideas.

Ted is undeserving of belonging to the ranks of rock n roll. He doesn't do drugs. Too bad. A few joints is exactly what his 12 year old boy, hyperactive, loudmouth bully, compensating for ?? with all the guns personality needs. Real bad.

    Simplicity-
So you have "a sense of history"? Good, then you'll be able to tell your descendents sometime what like was life before you all lived in a fascist dictatorship. That is, if they haven't already left to live somewhere civilised where morons with guns and god aren't in charge.

"Simplicity"? You are an idiot. Worse, a dangerous idiot.

  19. By . Comment posted 30-May-2006 @06:50pm:
There IS no classification for Ted Nugent; he's one of a kind - or at least we can certainly hope so. One thing's for sure, though - if the name comes up, so does the image and most everyone throws it out with the trash. I don't think most of the country CARES what Ted Nugent thinks or wants.

But there's danger here - choosing a rabid gun freak who wants to shoot everything that moves to represent the pro-gun side of the argument is a perfect way to get the right to own a gun banned.

That might not sound like such a bad idea, but I firmly believe that the day they ban your right to own a gun is the day you no longer live in a free country.

I'm with Simplicity, and I could give a good damn what those in the UK think - we fought a war to separate ourselves from the UK, remember? Let them take care of their own little country - period.

Hey guys, did any of you see the recent article in the Phoenix New Times about extreme cuisine chef Kaz Yamamoto? It has numerous references to the Nuge. My favorite is this jewel:

"Nuge kinda crazy," says Yamamoto. "In Japanese, they say 'kuru-kuru-paa.' You see that film March of the Penguins? Remember how mother go get food to eat, then walk a long way back to ice where father keep nest? We lie on slope, fire on mother penguin as they walk back. Nuge, he shoot flaming arrow at one penguin, and scare many away. Penguin explode, they have so much oil in body. He run down and eat it right there, while still on arrow! He can't wait, he so hungry for penguin."

    Keith

May I assume from your name that you live in the UK?

Perhaps your sense of history is lacking; my father and grandfather bailed your sorry ass out of two world wars, both on the verge of giving you more than a taste of your beloved fascism. I paid the price with the scars my father carried, the ones I could see and the ones that did not show. Trade your peaceful childhood for mine?

And you don\'t know the meaning of the word fascism, you worthless piece of dung.

You owe more to those morons with guns than you will ever be able to repay, and you should thank YOUR god that someone made a world in which you can act the ass and not have it handed to you for doing so.

    Sodding moron.

I used to be able to drive down the road and not have to go through roadblocks.

There's even a tv commercial for an insurance company that uses the roadblock to help sell their product.

Got to keep under 1000 Chars...

    Simplicity

A "Sense of history" is easier than a "knowledge of history", avoids all those inconvenient facts for one thing.

In a civilized, safe & stable society nobody need weapons. I have never seen or heard a gun fired. I know nobody who has been shot or shot at, how many Americans could say the same.

As far as WWI & II are concerned America prevaricated and looked the other way until they were forced to join the fun.

Another way to look at it is “If the European allies (& Russia) had not fought Germany for years before America joined in, then the axis would have stormed over America”, so we saved your sorry asses.

As far as the Jews in wartime Germany were concerned, if they were more heavily armed do you think:
A - The Nazis would run away.
B - The Nazis would have bombed them all to rubble.

If you think A then you are a bigger idiot than I can imagine.
