Prayer Really Works
(with comments)
In Texas: New Braunfels residents pray for rain.
For a few minutes at least, the heavens opened and answered the prayers of more than 200 people. Officially, only .03 of an inch of rain fell in New Braunfels Thursday evening, the same amount that was recorded in San Antonio, according to the National Weather Service.
But to the residents, pastors and passers-by who gathered in the town's square to pray for showers, the brief rainfall was a gift from God.
"Lord, send the rain and your protections along with it," cried out Kevin Boston of Harmony Baptist, one of several local pastors who addressed the crowd.
"God's heart is unity," said Michele Hess, a pastor at Vision Church who stood among the attendees. "Yes, I know it will work."
And it did work.
As if in answer to prayer, a breeze whistled through trees in the town square and a light rain pelted the burgundy dome of the gazebo, where pastors stood to address the crowd.

That's their problem right there. Women preachers. If they never let women in the pulpit, they wouldn't have had this problem. - By Bisbonian. Comment posted 01-Aug-2009 @12:00pm:I was in San Antonio that day, praying for the Gawd Awful heat to let up. That probably accounts for the rain there.
Did any rain fall in the hill country? Or was it mainly on the plains? - By Thrash Cardiom. Comment posted 01-Aug-2009 @01:29pm:I think that god is just teasing them.
- By smails. Comment posted 01-Aug-2009 @03:07pm:Well, I live in Austin, very close to them, and I got whole 0.25 inch of rain. Maybe God likes me a little better.

It's hokey at times, and the symbolism is kind of heavy handed, but you gotta believe... - By Bisbonian. Comment posted 01-Aug-2009 @03:36pm:I think I have seen that one, mmmark, but there was also a (two part, I think) Bonanza episode about a rainmaker that I think was similar. I remember it more clearly. The rainmaker came to town, set up a big tower, with mysterious chemicals he kept cooking up there, night and day. People ridiculed him, but it finally rained.
It seemed to me to be based on a story I was very familiar with; that of Charles Hatfield, in San Diego County. My father and I both grew up hiking and camping around Morena Lake, which he was contracted to fill. He did, the city refused to pay, and his heir still have an outstanding suit for the money.
The chemical was likely silver iodide, commonly used for seeding clouds (to make them rain). - By wormpicker. Comment posted 01-Aug-2009 @04:50pm:

Maybe God just needs to work on His aim. - By deaudonnee. Comment posted 01-Aug-2009 @09:12pm:We have a new rain gauge and it recorded 2-1/2" in our back yard on Houston's west side. Pretty good for no prayer at all.

Triple-digit temperatures and a relentless months long drought have brought much of South Texas to its knees this summer, resulting in stern water restrictions and a steady string of heat warnings. Lawns are parched, children stay indoors, and many are left to wonder both why, and when will it end?
About 200 people of faith, from in and around the town of New Braunfels, Texas (about 30 miles NE of San Antonio) decided to stop merely waiting and attempt a Biblical solution; they prayed for rain.... Read the entire blog at http://www.speedcreed.com/blog
