A Liberal Plot
(with comments)
Here's Connie M. Meskimen's letter to the editor published in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. Source: The Goat.
Apparently, Connie M. Meskimen is an attorney in Little Rock.
(Thanks Jon)

- By J-W #656. Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @11:29am:Heaven help the people of Arkansas if it is real. (Attorney?)
- By Gee.... Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @11:36am:LOL!
I wish I'd have thought of that.
(Come on you guys, it's a joke...and a VERY funny one too!) - By Blayne. Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @11:47am:Man, we'd really be in trouble if we had daylight saving year round!
- By Bisbonian. Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @11:53am:So, would the converse then be true also? Can we halt Global Warming by mandating a couple hours less daylight per day? Heck, I'd volunteer to do my part and sleep in a couple hours.
- By J-Walk. Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @12:07pm:Yeah, I tend to think it's a joke, too. Probably perpetrated by someone who didn't have happy legal dealings with Connie Meskimen.
- By Blayne. Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @12:18pm:There is a real article in that particular paper, but you have to pay $1.95 to read it...
- By KS. Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @12:27pm:None of the other letter on the page appear to be jokes: http://www.nwanews.com/adg/Editorial/187608/
Maybe I'm missing something... - By Jennifer. Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @12:34pm:Holy mother of god
- By Grant. Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @01:14pm:She fails to recognize that that's why there are only 28 days in February ... to alleviate the warming ... that's a WHOLE DAY of cooling -
- By Minderbinder. Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @01:15pm:Could that be an alias of Emily Littella? Nevermiiind.
- By another larry. Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @01:30pm:An attorney for the Arkansas Mensa club maybe?
- By Alan Andrew. Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @01:38pm:Was it printed on or around April 1?
- By Jason. Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @01:41pm:*facepalm*
- By T-Dog. Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @01:48pm:More lunacy from the left.
- By gl!tch. Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @02:21pm:The only thing funnier than that post was Grant’s reply ^ very clever.
- By biff. Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @02:22pm:Compare that to all the other stuff you've read/heard by liberal bashers and you'll see they all have something in common.
- By hogwash. Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @05:01pm:I'm telling you, global warming IS REAL! Why, just in the last three months, the average temperature in the bay area has risen at least 15 degrees!!
- By Guy. Comment posted 19-Apr-2007 @05:35pm:Q: What do you call an idiot from Arkansas?
A: Gifted. - By Snag. Comment posted 20-Apr-2007 @05:15am:Guy ... LOL ... really !
We have also been through this, state-by state, and Australia now has a hodge-podge of intro times for daylight saving each year.
There were some semi-valid objections years ago, like dairy-farmers with delayed milking times etc. Others were hilarious, like the extra hour of sunlight fading the curtains. It quickly became a staple of comedians, with one famously claiming that Western Australia doesn't have daylight saving because if it did all the men would get erections on the bus on the way to work. I once heard an airline captain chuckle while announcing ".. we are now entering Queensland .. please put your clocks back an hour .. and your calendars back 100 years".
Anyway .. American papers often feature such parody articles.
Here is another that some of you might relate to ...

- By Brian. Comment posted 20-Apr-2007 @03:17pm:The funniest part to me was the typo in the headline...."warning" instead of "warming." Layer upon layer of stupidity.
I love it! - By mmmark. Comment posted 20-Apr-2007 @03:22pm:
- By J. Comment posted 20-Apr-2007 @06:21pm:mmmark, that's why Snag called it a parody.

- By Greg. Comment posted 24-Apr-2007 @11:19am:"I just got off the phone with Mr. Meskimen's secretary who says he is not an idiot and that this most certainly has to be satire."
Which secretary would say that her boss is an idiot?
Aside from that, I was under the impression that Connie is a woman's name, so wouldn't it be Mrs. Meskimen? - By Joe. Comment posted 24-Apr-2007 @11:43am:Connie is frequently a male's name (especially in the South). Never heard of the famous baseball player Connie Mack?
- By Chris Yoder. Comment posted 24-Apr-2007 @02:41pm:This cant be true.No one can be this dimwitted. This guy must be taking a ribbing because it is hilarious.I would like to hear form the man/woman themselves.I tried finding the email on the corporate website to no end.Connie if your out there please enlighten us.
- By Kirk. Comment posted 24-Apr-2007 @04:39pm:Well, I say we add more Daylight Savings time and get rid of winter all together. Infact, lets add enough to get rid of the night and just have daylight 24hrs a day 365 days a year.
Just image all that we could do if we never had to sleep. - By Steven. Comment posted 24-Apr-2007 @05:57pm:Is he leading a class action lawsuit? I'll sign up.

Let's all contact her and try to sue the government for extending the daylight. - By Richard. Comment posted 26-Apr-2007 @07:08am:The Connie M. Meskimen of the letter to the editor is NOT the Little Rock attorney, but a resident of Hot Springs, as the original letter indicated. She is listed in the Hot Springs telephone directory.
I have submitted letter parodies to my local paper and had them published. Either this is such a letter, or else I hope Ms Meskimen is in a home where she can be properly cared for. - By Scott. Comment posted 26-Apr-2007 @01:04pm:If it were a joke, the editors didn't get it: http://www.nwanews.com/adg/Editorial/187608
- By Maura Larkins. Comment posted 01-May-2007 @05:00pm:The letter is very well written. The writer says, "All of the trees were fully leafed out and legions of bugs and snakes were crawling around during a time in Arkansas when, on a normal year, we might see a snowflake or two." That's too much imagery and clever phrasing to be written by an uneducated person.
Of course, it's possible to have a high I.Q. and still be misguided.
But my guess is that Connie Meskimen is falling off her chair laughing at all the uproar she's caused. Very well done, Connie.
