A Full Quiver
(with comments)
The movement that's sweeping the nation: Quiverfull
Quiverfull is a movement among conservative evangelical Christian couples chiefly in the United States, but with some adherents in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, England, and elsewhere.
Its viewpoint is to receive children eagerly as blessings from God, eschewing all forms of birth control, including natural family planning and sterilization. Someone of this persuasion might call themselves a "quiver full", "full quiver", "quiverfull-minded", or simply "QF" Christian. Some might refer to the Quiverfull position as Providentialism, while the popular press has recently referred to the movement as a manifestation of natalism.
The movement and its corpus of literature have grown steadily since its inception. Its adherents most likely number in the "thousands to low tens of thousands". It began to receive significant attention in the U.S. national press in 2004.
Why? Because of one sentence written in an old book:
"Be fruitful and multiply"

If you're truly fruitful, though--take Little Richard--you're probably not going to be multiplying. - By ...pat.. Comment posted 03-Jul-2009 @08:59pm:It's used to excuse a lot of misogyny, refusal for birth control, and xenophobia.

My mother was #13 out or 13 (they weren't even Catholic, they were Methodist!) and my father was #5 of 5.
My half-sister was an only child (she was 16 by the time I was born, I was her training baby) and my half-brother was raised by his mother and step-father an only child, and I was raised an only child. I know my parents wanted another, but it wasn't to be. I have married aunts and uncles that are childless! Something tells me that family didn't want large families after that experience... - By Thrash Cardiom. Comment posted 03-Jul-2009 @09:27pm:Eat lots of fruit and make sure you know your math!

I think you think I'm thinking of Tutti Frutti, which I am.

Bisbonian, remember that this brand of conservative is ruled by fear, so it's not so much that they want to outnumber the opposition; they're terrified of the opposition outnumbering them. - By . Comment posted 04-Jul-2009 @04:04pm:"Be fruitful and multiply"
Which was horribly miscontrued. All God meant to say is that they should eat plenty of fruits and vegetables as part of a healthy balanced diet, and acquire some good math skills. - By Bisbonian. Comment posted 04-Jul-2009 @06:49pm:

Good point.

Clearly, they failed. - By Shel-tone. Comment posted 04-Jul-2009 @09:44pm:1. Give birth to children you will be unable to support on your own.
2. Raise said litter without being able to give each child the attention they need to grow up to be responsible adults.
3. Push you kooky religion on the child, and tell them other lies about Santa Claus and the Easter bunny. Prove to the child over and over again that authority figures like you will only hurt them.
4. You children will grow to hate you, and find me waiting on the dark side.
Excellllent. - By . Comment posted 05-Jul-2009 @06:47am:Shel-tone.... What are you doing over there on the dark side? We know you are a closet nice guy.
